Under a standard JCT contract we have recently completed the refurbishment of Cricklade House Hotel, a traditional country house hotel and spa located on the edge of the Cotswolds in Swindon.

From start to finish in 15 weeks this project comprised of a highly detailed and complex fast track programme in a live and occupied hotel. Due to the live nature of the hotel, we initially had to set up site on the hotel’s car park, near to the rear entrance. By doing this, it allowed us to have access to the project without disturbing the hotel’s staff and guests. Once we were established on site, we began installing hoardings throughout the hotel, again separating ourselves from the live environment and limiting the amount of disruption to both guests and staff.

After completely separating ourselves from the hotel, we then commenced the complete strip out of the hotel’s gym, snooker room, pool, changing rooms, therapy rooms and office. Once the strip out had been completed, we began structural alterations creating new openings in walls to bring the hotel’s layout in line with the client’s designs.

Following the structural works, we commenced in the complete refurbishment of the male and female changing rooms, completing a full M&E installation, including brand new sanitary ware. As well as the male and female changing rooms, we formed a brand new DDA facility by knocking through an existing wall, giving the hotel reception complete access to a DDA toilet. In addition to this, we also completed the full refurbishment of the steam and sauna rooms next to the pool, as well as installing a brand-new pool side shower. The pool hall was then tiled throughout before installing a brand-new aluminium door and windows.

Concurrently to working in the pool hall, we also created a new gym, LUX beauty room, treatment rooms and a spa lounge to create a brand-new layout. New carpets, ‘Amtico’ flooring, wallpaper and tiles were then added before our own in-house decorating team decorated throughout, to create a fantastic finish.

Whilst on site and due to the client being happy with the work we had already completed, we negotiated further works which included the installation of two brand new ‘warm dec’ roofs. The first above the gym and LUX beauty room and the second above the swimming pool. Due to the works taking place above a swimming pool, and health and safety being a big consideration of ours, we initially had to place ‘Youngman Boards’ over the swimming pool to cover it completely. Crash decks were then put down to give us a safe working platform. Once this had been completed, we began the removal of the ceiling and roof light. Following this a brand-new MF ceiling and glazed electronic roof light was installed. Similar works were then completed above the gym and LUX beauty room before both areas were decorated using our own in-house decorating team, creating a quality finish.

Overall the project ran smoothly and was finished to an extremely high standard that the client was very happy with.
