Central England Co-Operative, Chillwell
Case Study
the
project
As part of the Central England Co-operative’s on-going contractors ‘framework’ Murray & Willis recently completed a funeralcare home in Chilwell near Nottingham.
Shortly after taking possession of this empty developer’s shell with only the shopfront installed, we transformed it into a state of the art funeralcare space.
The building consisted of two levels, with the ground floor incorporating a feature curved wall in reception, separate staff office and two arranging rooms used to discuss funeral plans with family members. Along with two private visitation rooms for the immediate family to visit the deceased and public toilet facilities. In the back of house area, facilities included a large freezer, embalming room and rear coffin workshop area.
On the first floor we created a staff room facility including a shower, staff toilets, changing room facilities, a small staff tea room and a large storage area.
Externally, we undertook all excavation works to allow new drainage and plumbing. We then relined the car park to the front of the property to make best use of the space, including installing new stainless-steel bollards.
At the rear of the property we installed a new fence around the perimeter of the existing brick wall, to create a private area out of view from the general public. To create a discreet area for viewing floral arrangements, a timber canopy was built over the rear entrance door with an embedded flower display.
