Case Study
the
project
RJ Lever & Associates appointed Murray & Willis, on behalf of Priory Group, to convert a three-storey semi-detached town house into six self-contained flats with staff quarters.
The two ground floor flats were designed to be fully DDA compliant and as such all of the internal walls had to be removed in order to create large open plan living areas. We worked closely with the team of structural engineers so that the new structural steel beams could be installed. The project was made more difficult as most of the walls on the first floor were removed or altered, again to allow us to create an open plan living space. When the building had been made structurally sound we continued with the formation and fit-out of the 6 flats.
After testing the under floor heating, to see if it was capable of heating the new layout of the building, it was decided that the best course of action would be to decommission and remove this and to install a complete new heating system to each flat. Despite the huge amount of extra work involved in the installation of the new heating system we still managed to hand the project over within the original programme as we were conscious that our client was keen to get the building operational.
Each flat was designed to be completely self-sufficient and as such new level access bathrooms were installed, along with a large open plan kitchen diner and a spacious bedroom. The two flats on the ground floor had new, level access, patio doors fitted which gave wheelchair access to the large private rear garden and they also had wheelchair friendly kitchens fitted.
The transformation of the building was completed by fully decorating throughout using our own in-house decorating division and finally we installed new anti-slip flooring to the appropriate areas.
This eight week contract was completed by our Small Works & Special Projects team on time and within budget, to the complete satisfaction of our client.

“We are delighted with the quality of the work of M&W and were equally impressed at the way they were able to undertake such an extensive refurbishment programme with the absolute minimum of disruption. The commitment to the project is reflected in the professional manner in which they approached this difficult task and the quality of the overall finish of the project.”
