Pinehurst Care Home, Bournemouth
Case Study
the
project
We successfully tendered this project for accomplish to form six new bedrooms, two apartments, a large dining room, a living room, a laundry room, three kitchens and an office for Pinehurst Care Home in Bournemouth.
This project involved the complete refurbishment of an eight-bedroom Victorian detached dwelling into a specialist care facility for patients with head trauma injuries.
This comprehensive refurbishment involved a complete strip out of the entire building, including the removal of the heating system and electrical wiring throughout the whole property. After the property had been stripped out an extensive amount of work was then required to bring the property back to life.
The scope of works that we undertook included installing a new heating system throughout the entire building, the property was then completely re-wired throughout, including fitting a new fire alarm system. The new fire alarm system was connected to all of the internal doors in the building which acted as a failsafe system. This system allowed the doors to be held open via a magnet, but would then also release the doors if the fire alarm was activated, giving the building great disability access, but at the same time making it as safe as possible in the event of a fire.
Further internal works that we completed included the demolition of two conservatories to build an extension to enlarge the lounge area, several large load bearing walls were demolished and structural steels were installed to form two new apartments, a new specialist platform lift giving access to all three floors was installed along with all new windows and entrance doors. Each bedroom had its own purpose-built wet room, with some having specialist hoists fitted between the bedroom and the bathroom allowing easy access to the bathrooms for all patients.
Concurrent to the internal refurbishments, we completed extensive works on the external areas of the property. These works included re-landscaping the external areas to form a car park with a new dropped kerb to the highway, a patio with raised beds for wheelchair access, a fencing and planting scheme, the installation of a new canopy above the front door and the surrounding walls were finished with a ‘Monocouche’ render making them maintenance free.
This project was completed on time, within budget and to the usual high level of quality exceeding the client’s expectations.
